Ron Hazenberg conducted the Highline Community Symphonic Band for fifteen years before leaving at season's end in 2008. At that point he had been a music educator in the public schools for over 25 years, developing concert, marching, and jazz programs that bring positive recognition to their school and community. Formerly the Director of Bands at Evergreen High School (1992-2004) Hazenberg is currently the Director of Bands at Ilahee Middle School in the Federal Way Public Schools.
Prior to moving to Washington, Hazenberg taught for eleven years in Sacramento, California. He served for nine years on the Capitol Section Music Educators Association Board of Directors, coordinating honor groups on both the state and regional levels. He also served as Guest Conductor for the University of the Pacific Music Institute, the San Juan Music Camp, and the Sugar Loaf Music, Art, and Drama Camp. Hazenberg served as Music Director and Conductor of the Sierra Nevada Wind Symphony, Chancel Choir Director at Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church, and the Guest Conductor for the Northern California Music Educators Association Junior High Honor Band.
A graduate of California State University, Sacramento, Mr. Hazenberg studied trombone with the late Norman J. Hunt. His conducting teachers included the late Dr. Fred Westphal, Ronald Holloway, Sir David Whitwell, and Kyung Soo Won. Hazenberg has performed with the Stockton Symphony, the Auburn Symphony, and the Stockton Chorale, which had the honor of performing in the one-hundredth anniversary concert series of Carnegie Hall (1992).
In Washington Hazenberg served as President of the Soundview Region of the Washington Music Educators Association, Music Representative to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, and staff member of the Washington Ambassadors of Music European Tour. Hazenberg is currently a staff member of the Western International Band Clinic, also serving as a Guest Conductor for Iwakuni Commercial High School (Iwakuni, Japan) at the 2003 WIBC. Hazenberg has served as an adjudicator for symphonic, marching, and jazz festivals in California, Oregon, and Washington, and was honored in 1998 as a recipient of the Washington State Sharon Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Education.
