An MP3 of the Concertion for Tuba is available in digitally sampled format. Not the same as a live recording, needless to say, but close enough to give you a good picture of how the piece was intended to sound. I've noticed that on some systems the bass comes through very well and on others it is very weak against the band sounds. If you have an option to turn up the bass you can balance that a little better on your own machine. Of course, since you would be listening to this to help you understand your own parts turning the bass down would help you hear what you really need to hear. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It's time to start rehearsals again for the remainder of the 2009-2010 season. Be there January 4.

It's also time for a shameless plug for the 8th Annual Northwest Brass Band Festival to be held at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue on Saturday, January 30. Guest director this year will be Pat Sheridan, renowned tuba professor from Arizona State University, also on the faculty at UCLA, whose "Breathing Gym" has brought new air to the lungs of so many wind players worldwide. As guest soloist the festival welcomes Allen Vizzutti on trumpet, international recording artist and former member of the Woody Herman and Tonight Show orchestras. The concert will be at 7PM, but those wishing to participate in the brass workshops can spend the day for a nominal fee. The concert, of course, is by donation. 2009-2010 SEASON
The 39th season of the Highline Band has officially begun. The website has been slow to get updated due to problems with the service, but we're finally back and online. Our first rehearsal was supposed to be on August 31, 2009, but problems with gaining access to the rehearsal location have delayed it. First rehearsal is now set for Monday, September 14, and will once again be at Highline High School starting at 7:15PM.

In a change of pace this year, instead of the annual summer picnic, there was a Potluck and Reading Session, Saturday, August 29, at 2PM at the LDS church in Burien, 14020 Ambaum Blvd SW, Burien, WA 98166. (Ambaum Blvd and S 142nd Street). Since this is now after the fact it is merely a report and not a call to arms.
